POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER Q&A
We know participating in recruitment can be an uncertain time and potential new members have lots of questions. We’ve compiled a list of our frequently asked questions with the answers a PNM needs to ease recruitment stress.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR A PNM PARTICIPATING IN RECRUITMENT?
Focus on building genuine connections with the people you meet. Recruitment is a chance for you to explore each chapter and let them get to know you. Put your best foot forward, be vulnerable and genuine, enjoy yourself and—most importantly—trust the process!
WHAT DOES ALPHA GAMMA DELTA LOOK FOR IN A PNM?
Alpha Gamma Delta seeks members based on academic success, ambition, character, leadership and community service experience and connections with our members and values.
WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR RECRUITMENT?
After registering, research sorority life on your campus—most chapters have social media accounts and websites. Prepare for first impressions—dress accordingly and start every conversation with a smile. If possible, have a member of Alpha Gamma Delta or someone you know well—such a as close family friend or teacher—submit a Recruitment Information Form for you.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHICH SORORITY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
If you go into this experience with the intention of building genuine connections with the people you meet, you will find the people you fit with best. Be open-minded and really get to know each chapter’s values and members. Share your own values and aspirations, and strive to be the best, most authentic version of yourself. When you find a chapter where your values align with theirs and you can see yourself beside them—you’ll know you have found the right fit.
HOW DOES ALPHA GAMMA DELTA CELEBRATE DIVERSITY?
Alpha Gamma Delta celebrates the uniqueness of every member, and we are committed to fostering a loving, equitable and inclusive experience for all members. Leading up to the 2020–21 academic year, we partnered with Dr. Stacey Pearson-Wharton to develop an intentional and positive educational approach to our work surrounding diversity, inclusion and allyship. Our chapter members, staff and volunteers completed training on a variety of topics, including privilege, implicit bias, allyship and more. HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I EXPECT TO SPEND ATTENDING RECRUITMENT EVENTS?
This varies by campus. This information is typically available on your campus or College Panhellenic website or social media. Don’t hesitate to contact them to find out.
HOW DO I ASK ABOUT THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?
On most campuses, chapters will review financial commitments with PNMs. Feel free to ask questions and chat through any potential concerns you have with the members. Panhellenic Recruitment Counselors are a great resource, too!
HOW DO CHAPTERS CHOOSE NEW MEMBERS?
Chapters choose new members through a membership selection process. This varies by organization, but for Alpha Gamma Delta, it is the privilege and responsibility of each collegiate chapter, and the decision is made at the local level.
