In 2016, we launched Alpha Gamma Delta’s Week of Service as a chance for sisters all over North America to volunteer together. The fifth line of our Purpose challenges us, “To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied.” Our sisters volunteered in local community service initiatives throughout the week and worked together to give back. Members volunteered at humane societies, food banks, retirement communities, local cleanup sites and more. Since the first year went so well, we couldn’t wait to see what we were capable of the next year!
In 2017, we provided the same premise and also encouraged members to use this week as a chance to get connected to our soon-to-be new external philanthropic cause –fighting hunger. Sisters showed up all over North America and shared their stories all over social media using #AlphaGamServes. Below are just a few of the stories and photos from the week.
During the week, chapters and clubs made Valentine’s cards for Meals on Wheels as a part of their Love Letter Campaign with DoSomething.org. Some groups even had the chance to hand deliver them to seniors in their community!
Many members volunteered at their local food pantry or food bank. This was a great opportunity to get connected to the cause, especially for those in preparation for recruitment in the fall so that they have a personal story to tell to Potential New Members
Other volunteer opportunities included the Humane Society, tabling for various charities, making care packages for the troops, showing appreciation for their campus and more!
It was a week full of giving back to our local communities and we are so proud of how sisters lived with Purpose!
