The Harm Prevention Team works to ensure that Alpha Gamma Delta chapters provide an experience where health and dignity are at the center of the experience, and to respond to and remediate situations in which that is not the case. Alpha Gamma Delta is committed to the safety of your sisters. Browse the topics below to see how we strive to support and educate our members.
ALCOHOL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM ExpandThe ASTP was developed by the University of Washington as a motivational workshop to decrease binge-drinking in college-aged students. The ASTP was brought to the fraternity and sorority community more than 10 years ago and has since been adopted by more than 15 other fraternity/sorority organizations. This program has successfully reduced binge-drinking and unsafe consumption habits in college-aged students-specifically within fraternities and sororities. Data indicates participants respond positively to the ASTP as an educational program and it has assisted members in making healthy consumption decisions. The purpose of utilizing the ASTP is to provide education on alcohol consumption and enhanced skills for all collegiate members of Alpha Gamma Delta.
Each Alpha Gamma Delta chapter will receive the ASTP within a three-year rotation. The ASTP is a volunteer-facilitated program where Alpha Gamma Delta alumnae volunteers or staff conduct a short visit to the chapter to present the program.
The Vice President-Chapter Wellness will be the main point of contact between staff and volunteers.
Yes, the program is mandatory. The Fraternity is providing this program to all chapters-including new chapters-within the three-year rotation. If a minimum of 75 percent of members attend the program, it is free.
NATIONAL HAZING PREVENTION WEEK ExpandHazing is a matter that Alpha Gamma Delta takes seriously. Because of its long-lasting impact on those who may experience hazing, Alpha Gamma Delta works to educate members throughout the year on what hazing is and how to prevent it.
Each September, Alpha Gamma Delta recognizes National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW), which provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, campuses and communities across North America to raise awareness about hazing and to promote hazing prevention. Alpha Gamma Delta provides members with additional resources to educate themselves and others on this important issue.
SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH ExpandSexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is an annual campaign that raises public awareness about sexual assault and educates communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.
Each year during the month of April, state, territory, tribal and community-based organizations, rape crisis centers, government agencies, businesses, campuses and individuals plan events and activities to highlight sexual violence as a public health, human rights and social justice issue and reinforce the need for prevention efforts.
Alpha Gamma Delta is dedicated to supporting survivors and educating members on how to prevent sexual violence. Click here for resources on supporting a friend through sexual violence. Impact Talks and additional resources for collegiate chapters can be found in Acorn.
