ALPHA GAMMA DELTA LEGACY Q&A

Women wishing to become a member of a sorority often have questions about legacy status. A sorority legacy is a potential new member (PNM) whose specified relative is an initiated member of a sorority. Legacy policies vary by sorority, and Alpha Gam is no exception.

An Alpha Gamma Delta legacy is a woman who is a daughter, step-daughter, sister, step-sister, granddaughter or step granddaughter to an Alpha Gamma Delta member in Good Standing.

Our Legacy Policy states:

“An Alpha Gamma Delta legacy should be extended the same courtesy that is given to all recruitment guests.”

Does being an Alpha Gam legacy help me during sorority recruitment?

Our Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose states:

“To cultivate acquaintance with many whom I meet…”

Our members love getting to know our legacies during recruitment, as it is a special opportunity to meet women who have a legacy connection to our Fraternity. As such, legacies of Alpha Gamma Delta will receive a courtesy invitation to the first invitational round (also known as Round Two) of Formal Recruitment if the chapter has a Recruitment Recommendation Form for a legacy from a member in Good Standing.

However, in order to receive an invitation for membership, a legacy must qualify for membership in her own right and must be compatible with the chapter.
Any legacy in attendance to the Preference round or final recruitment function is placed at the top of the chapter’s Bid List.

How does a chapter know who is a legacy?

At most universities, the sorority registration form provides an area for a PNM to designate the fraternity/sorority affiliation of family members. In many cases, an Alpha Gam chapter may receive a Recruitment Recommendation Form, identifying a PNM as a legacy.

What if I’m not a legacy?

Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity desires a positive recruitment experience for all potential new members. We encourage potential new members of all or no legacy affiliations to participate in recruitment with an open mind as each National Panhellenic Conference sorority offers extraordinary and impactful experiences.

As a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, will I know ahead of time if my daughter, sister, granddaughter, etc. will receive a bid or not?

To protect the privacy of the Legacy and uphold chapter confidentiality, the Fraternity gives responsibility to the potential new member to communicate to her release to the legacy connection(s).

Alpha Gamma Delta chapters are not to call a potential new member’s legacy connection upon her release nor are chapters to provide information about the status of a legacy or any other potential new member during recruitment. The Fraternity respects every potential new member’s right to make her own decision and to choose how and when she informs her family and friends. While Alpha Gamma Delta recognizes the value of the legacy relationship, the Fraternity also respects potential new member privacy and each chapter’s confidentiality during the Membership Selection process.

As a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, how can I let a chapter know about a legacy connection?

We encourage all alumnae in Good Standing to fill out a Recruitment Recommendation Form to identify a potential new member as a legacy or to simply recommend a PNM for membership.
