Alpha Gamma Delta

Walking. It’s such a simple motion that we don’t often stop to consider its importance. But what if we could harness this simple act to drastically improve our health and wellbeing?

Diabetes, Alpha Gamma Delta’s chosen philanthropic focus, is affecting our members and their families and friends at an astounding rate. Nearly one in ten American adults suffers from the disease, and one in three babies born today will develop diabetes. But there’s hope—together as sisters, we can defeat diabetes one step at a time.

Through the Walk to 2010 Challenge, Alpha Gams are doing just that. A charge has been made to each Alpha Gamma Delta sister to walk 1,000 miles—the distance from the Fraternity's International Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana to the Convention 2010 location in Tampa, Florida—between June 2008 and June 2010.

Sound intimidating? It might. But if we count each and every walk—every treadmill session, every lap around the mall, every hike in the woods—and maybe even add a few more walks into our lives, we can do it. At the same time, we’ll improve our health and enjoy time spent in an active lifestyle with our sisters, families and friends.

The Fraternity will be with you each step of the way, offering encouragement and resources to help you succeed in this ambitious goal. A special online community has been created for sisters to share their stories, tips and progress. Members who complete the 1,000 mile challenge will receive special recognition and prizes.
