Sisters Selected for Australian Adventure
Shannon O'Nale and Kimberly Winchester, both from Epsilon Zeta Chapter-Arkansas State University, were recently rewarded for their outstanding leadership ability with a trip to Australia. The trip was sponsored through the Global Student Leader (GSL) program, which rewards the most outstanding student leaders at ASTATE with a once in a lifetime opportunity. This program advances the proposition in the ASTATE mission statement that we prepare students in challenging and diverse ways to become more productive global citizens. The GSL program pays for everything for the students, including their plane tickets, meals, and lodging. Natalie Eskew is the Coordinator for Student Services Orientation and Yearbook of Arkansas State, is an alumni of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter, and was the advisor on the trip to Australia. Kimberly Winchester speaks of her GSL experience, "I felt so blessed to be selected for the GSL trip to Australia. When I found out I would be going with my pledge sister Shannon and have an alumni, Natalie, as our advisor, I was even more excited." The three sisters travelled to many different cities in Australia, including Sydney, Canberra (the capital city of Australia), and Katoomba. In the Blue Mountains, the three sisters got to take a picture in front of the famous rock formation known as the "three sisters" in Katoomba, Australia. They got to see numerous famous sites, such as the Sydney Opera House, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach and the Darling Harbour Aquarium and Wildlife Center.

Delta Chapter-University of Minnesota Installation Date: February 14, 19008
Delta Chapter at the University of Minnesota had two centennial celebrations—one during International Reunion Day (IRD) in April and another one on February 11, 2008. The centennial celebration at IRD united sisters from the Minnesota area as they visited the chapter house for tours. In February, people from all over the area—faculty, police, legislators, members from other Greek organizations and Alpha Gam alumnae—came to the Alpha Gamma Delta chapter house. Enjoying refreshments and sifting through old photographs, it was truly a community-focused affair.

Epsilon Chapter-University of Kentucky Installation Date: May 14, 1908
Utilizing the theme “100 Years of Beauty; Nothing can compare,” alumnae of Epsilon Chapter at the University of Kentucky traveled from across the country to celebrate their chapter’s 100th birthday on October 3 through 5, 2008. From a reception that united Alpha Gams of all ages and backgrounds to a historic and interactive house tour, all Alpha Gams who attended truly cherished this centennial celebration. With roses in hand, pearls around their necks and badges over their hearts, they found that it doesn’t take a century to create a sisterhood, but instead, it takes a special sisterhood to last a century.

Fulfilling the line "To understand that wisdow may be vouchsafed to me."
Xi-Illinois Wesleyan University
All of our members work extremely hard to fulfill and exceed their academic standards. As a result, Xi Chapter earned the highest grade point average of the four sororities on campus during spring 2009. In addition, 58 members achieved Strive for Pi. As our new members learned about our sorority, they quickly discovered the importance of academics to this chapter and endeavored to achieve the same high academic standings as their sisters.
-Jessica Hinterlong
Zeta Zeta-Worchester Polytechnic Institute
Zeta Zeta Chapter at Worcester Polytechnic Institute must complete three major projects over our four years. These projects help sisters “to gain understanding that wisdom may be vouchsafed to [them].” The first project is the Humanities and Arts Project, which focuses on integrating the humanities into our curriculum. The second project is the Interdisciplinary Qualifying Project, often completed off campus in one’s junior year. This project focuses on using the skills we learn in science and engineering to improve the world we live in. The third, the Major Qualifying Project, is a culmination of all of our knowledge in our major, completed in one’s senior year. This project helps sisters to better define their interests and decide what they want to do after college. These projects help sisters determine what they want out of their college experience and help them gain understanding and wisdom.
-Amanda Keller
Delta Tau-Chapman University
As a scholastic requirement for the chapter, every sister must complete a designated number of group study hours with fellow chapter members in the school library weekly in addition to any work she may do elsewhere. Those who have earned a grade point average of 3.14 act as proctors for these study hours and are honored for their academic attainments through Strive for Pi, a program which recognizes scholarly achievement.
-Alexandra Sgambati
Gamma Omega-University of Alabama at Birmingham
Gamma Omega Chapter used our recent pre-Initiation and Initiation ceremonies to learn and, for some, renew their understanding of Alpha Gamma Delta and its rituals. It was nice to be reminded of our Founders and the standards on which we are united. We enjoyed watching our new members go through the Initiation experience and learn the meanings behind our sisterhood for the first time. We always look forward to learning more about Alpha Gamma Delta and growing through that knowledge, as well as bring 26 new members into our inner circle of sisterhood!
-Chelsey Smith
Theta Lambda-University of West Florida
This year we held our third annual "Squirrel Connections" sisterhood retreat right before recruitment. During this retreat, we had activities such as Cross the Line, If You Knew Me You Would Know and Perfect Sister, which allowed us to get to know our sisters even more and tighten our bond as a chapter. After this, we were unstoppable going into recruitment and our sisterhood and love for one another was reflected to the potential new members in each party! We used the information we learned about one another to learn how to work better as a team and to improve our chapter.
-Rebecca Sullivan
Delta Rho-Sonoma State University
This year has been a year of many accomplishments for Delta Rho Chapter. We began the spring semester with fresh energy and immediately began to focus on improving scholarship. Sisters instantly sought to help one another with their scholastic endeavors and our determination resulted in a much improved overall grade point average. The chapter was very excited to learn that our hard work had paid off and that we had earned the highest total GPA of all organizations on campus, exceeding the all-student and all-women’s average.
-Casie Stocking
Zeta Sigma-Northwood University
Fall term was definitely one of the busiest terms this year! The women of Zeta Sigma Chapter have been busy planning for work weekend and Formal Recruitment in addition to focusing on school and other campus-related activities. During NU’s annual Auto Show, five of the women on Team Mini won the award for Most Creative and Best European Walk Around. Additionally, four of our sisters organized and participated in Powder Puff football where they defeated the freshmen girls. Furthermore, three of our women are serving as Publications Chair, Events Chair and Chief Finance Officer for the Style Show this year. As the term ended, we all studied and worked hard to ace our final exams so we could enjoy Thanksgiving break. We look forward to next term because of the sisterhood events and CORs that are planned which will deepen old bonds and create new ones.
-Pahoua Vang
Beta Upsilon-Roosevelt University
At Beta Upsilon Chapter, education is one of the things the chapter focuses on most. Not only have we, as a chapter, surpassed the 3.14 grade point average recommendation, but many of our members have also have obtained a 4.0 for consecutive semesters. Beta Upsilon Chapter has also obtained the highest GPA of all the Greek organizations here at Roosevelt. We also spent a lot of time getting our new members ready for their exams and are thrilled to report that they all passed with flying colors. We cannot wait to see what new ideas these amazing women will bring to the chapter.
-Emily Petroschuk

Gamma Beta-Florida State University
The sisters of Gamma Beta Chapter have been working hard studying and have made progress in their overall chapter grade point average this year. The "Smarty Pants" award is given out during every chapter meeting to honor a member who has excelled in the classroom. Our VP of Scholarship created an incentive package for increased study time and success in the classroom this fall. The program implemented had sisters in pairs of two competing over the semester for the most study buddy hours. The winning team took home gift certificates for a day at the spa.
-Alicia Adams

Theta Mu-University of North Carolina at Wilimington
We Alpha Gam girls at University of North Carolina Wilmington know how to fulfill our Purpose. Beginning with the positive images we provide, academic excellence and exceptional grades is one of our many great qualities. We hold an annual scholarship event every year, in honor of Annie Morgan McLeod, to promote the importance of education. We organize a fantastic show and hold a dance competition that anyone in the community may participate in, as well as any other Greek organization. The money and donations Alpha Gamma Delta receives at this event go towards an academic scholarship, used to help a student that struggles to afford college tuitions. This displays how we demonstrate leadership by presenting ourselves as good role models, in both the community and on our campus. We provide helpful guidance to the best of our ability for those who need it, and we strive to have a positive impact on others. Our Purpose leads us to understand what it means to be a part of this amazing international women’s fraternity. As sisters, we learn and grow with each other, gaining wisdom together along the way.

Zeta Alpha-Eastern Michigan University
Our chapter tries to incorporate the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose in our every day lives and activities. This semester, we have tried something new by making a list of university general education events and attending them together as a chapter; not only furthering our education but at the same time developing our bonds of sisterhood. We always put school first and our Scholarship Coordinator has worked hard with our study plan to incorporate fun into studying by giving study hour prizes, study sisterhoods and group study sessions at the library. Last semester, Zeta Alpha Chapter had a 3.49 grade point avergae and almost made the Dean's List, one of the future goals of our chapter. As a chapter, we Strive for Pi and beyond both inside and outside of the classroom.
-Megan Rice
Theta Epsilon-University of South Alabama
Theta Epsilon Chapter uses this line of the Purpose to help us strive for excellence in scholarship. This fall we have held many potlucks and study groups. Our sisters have studied relentlessly all semester, and it has shown with grade improvements. The new members had a potluck for themselves, to deepen their knowledge about Alpha Gam. We, as sisters, hope to strengthen our good study habits and to keep attaining excellence in scholarship! During Formal Recruitment, we were pleased to have 27 new members, which was quota plus one for the University of South Alabama. Of course, the new members gained much wisdom through their Initiation on October 24 and they truly understand what it means for the wisdom to be “vouchsafed to me.”
-Kristen Griffin

Gamma Tau-University of West Georgia
Being honest, trustworthy and sincere are just a few of the qualities that we at Gamma Tau Chapter strive to fulfill. We accepted responsibility when we were initiated to take on the secrets of Alpha Gamma Delta as well as the secrets of our sisters. The beginning line of our Purpose is lived through the constant support and faithfulness of each sister to another. Being able to share our everyday routine to performing our ritual, each sister helps strengthen the other by simply listening and being what each of us are expected to be, a friend.
-Alyson Chester

Zeta Nu-Alma College
The sisters of Zeta Nu Chapter are diligent when it comes to school work. Our VP Scholarship reserves study rooms in our library many nights a week for sisters to use for individual or group study time. For any sisters who had a rough semester, they are put on scholarship improvement plans at the beginning of the semester so they can get help on improving their grade point average. Every sister gets a study buddy at the beginning of the semester, and this is simply someone to do homework with who can help keep us focused!
-Lauren Deutscher
Gamma Upsilon-University of Montevallo
In the Gamma Upsilon Chapter, each member tries to remember that this line is not only something that we recite once a week but something that should be lived out daily. We are proud to say that in the spring semester of 2009, Gamma Upsilon Chapter was ranked second highest in grade point average among the Panhellenic groups on campus with a GPA of 3.165! Over half of our members had a GPA that was higher than Pi, and we cannot wait to exceed that this fall with the help of our new scholarship plan.
-Lydia Wimberly
Theta Delta-North Georgia College and State University
These words provide the basis for Theta Delta Chapter to strive for academic excellence. At every chapter meeting, we have drawings to recognize those sisters that have received high grades on tests, quizzes and other assignments. While grades are important to all of our sisters, these incentives, ranging from small bags of candy to small gift cards, make the all night cram sessions a little more bearable. Our chapter prides itself on possessing the highest cumulative grade point average on campus among Greek organizations, acknowledging how important academics are to our chapter.
-Ashley Dodd
Zeta Delta-Towson University
Our chapter understands that what we learn together as a sisterhood is sacred. Being initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta is a special privilege that must be earned through respect and loyalty. We held a ritual review for the new member class in order for them to gain a better understanding of our traditions and what we represent as members of Alpha Gamma Delta. In addition, the new member class consistently gets together to complete their study hours as a group.
-Leigh Raskin
Beta Iota-Eastern Illinois University
Beta Iota Chapter uses the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose to give us knowledge and lead us to opportunities on campus. This fall, our chapter participated in Educational Week, in which we had great attendance. As a chapter, we saw presentations on time-management, alcohol safety and hazing, just to name a few. Our 2009 new member class attended study hours proctored by our VP Scholarship. As a chapter, we are striving to maintain an outstanding grade point average and continue to take any learning opportunities offered on campus.
-Kelsey Smith
Gamma Omicron-Eastern Kentucky University
The saying “you learn something new every day” has never been truer. In our chapter, we are constantly learning new things. Whether it be something we learn academically through our every day studies or something we learn about a fellow sister, the discovery is continual. Our education is very important to all of us, and as a chapter, we set aside time each week to study. Through study groups or individual studying, we are always interacting with one another and learning new things. We take the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose very seriously, and our wisdom is expanded every day.
-Melissa Drinkard
Delta Iota-California State University, Chico
“To gain understanding that wisdom may be vouchsafed to me” is a line from the Purpose that Delta Iota Chapter prides itself on fulfilling from each year. One event that showed this in action was the celebration of our 50th anniversary. It was a great opportunity to reunite sisters and strengthen the bond of sisterhood by bringing all the generations together. The wisdom we gained from our alumnae was invaluable to us.
-Sarah Carpenter
Epsilon Zeta-Arkansas State University
Epsilon Zeta Chapter had an exciting, purposeful semester, full of opportunities to better oneself both mentally and physically. Devoted to the first line of the Purpose, we’ve maintained the highest grade point average of any Greek organization on campus for the 22nd consecutive semester. This is an accomplishment we are well known for on campus and it warms our hearts to know we are exemplifying the Purpose in such a way that makes our Alpha Gams past and present so proud. From our fresh-faced first year girls to raring-to-turn-the-tassel seniors, we are proud to have sisters from every academic classification participating in Arkansas State University Honors College. ASU Honors College requires all students to be enrolled in at least one honors course per semester. Honors College isn’t the only place on campus full of Gams—every year, many sisters find themselves on the ASU Dean’s List or Chancellor’s List, and this year has been no exception. What an honor it is to see sisters new and old added to these lists yearly! And, of course, every year, it gives our VP Scholarship great joy to hand out Strive for Pi awards, which keeps her busy as we work so hard to keep our academic reputation just as sterling and polished as our badges!
-Abby Smith
Gamma Alpha-University of Georgia
Gamma Alpha Chapter reflects personal wisdom in that we help each other gain wisdom and knowledge in all aspects of our collegiate lives. As sisters and friends, we help each other by developing study groups. Outside of classes, our diversity shows in that we are able to learn from each other’s various backgrounds. Our wisdom is gained through our experiences, not only in classes, but together as sisters.
-Natalie Wirtz
Theta Tau-Belmont University
Theta Tau Chapter is very committed to knowledge and active learning. This fall, we participated in multiple events that helped us gain understanding of various topics. We participated in Vandy Family Day, which not only helped us reach out to the community around us and help our philanthropy, but also taught us more about juvenile diabetes and its effects. Many of our sisters attended a convocation that one of our members helped plan on TOMS Shoes, an organization that provides shoes to children in need. Along with these events, our Vice President of Scholarship hosted many study parties through the semester. These parties and our women’s diligent work have proved effective; we have maintained the highest Panhellenic grade point average at Belmont for the past three years and have also been awarded Panhellenic Sorority of the Year. Among our many awards we also had three women inducted into the Order of Omega. We are looking forward to learning more and expanding our knowledge on the community and world around us this upcoming spring.
-Morgan Caldwell
Gamma Delta-Auburn University
At Gamma Delta Chapter, we continue to pride ourselves in academics as we strive to uphold the honor of having the highest grades of all on-campus organizations for another academic year. With finals approaching in early December, our annual study pizza party was held allowing sisters to take a quick break from the library, relax and receive some encouragement from friends!
-Martha Ann Huey
Alpha Upsilon-Central Michigan University
This past November at Alpha Upsilon Chapter, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary of Alpha Gamma Delta on our campus. On the day of the celebration, we initiated 13 women into our chapter as well. In this Initiation, we were fulfilling the first line of the Purpose as we do with every Initiation, 'vouchsafing' the most secret of wisdoms of our Fraternity with these chosen individuals. For 50 years, we have been fulfilling this important part of our Purpose, and we continue to fulfill it with every Initiation.
-Gabrielle MacDonald
Beta Eta-Southern Illinois University
Our chapter uses the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose to guide us through each day. Throughout this semester, our sisters have attended a variety of speakers on campus. In doing this, we are able to take the words of wisdom they have given us and put them into practice in our daily lives. In 2008, we were named the top academic Panhellenic chapter at SIUC, and many sisters have earned their 4.0 pearls! Beta Eta Chapter has many sisters who are in Greek honor societies such as Rho Lambda, Alpha Lambda Delta, Golden Key Honor Society and Order of Omega. We are striving to implement this line of the Purpose in our collegiate careers!
-Kelsey Sloan
Gamma Psi-University of North Alabama
Gamma Psi Chapter uses the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose as our handbook to life. This fall, we arranged sisterhood outings and events after recruitment to ensure that the new members felt at home. We enjoyed our annual “Mafia Week” where pledge classes went to dinner, wrote letters to soldiers and had hot chocolate at the dorms. The women got to know more about each sister individually. This opened doors for the new members to learn about one another as they gained the understanding of sisterhood.
-Skylar L. Holland
Epsilon Lambda-University of Central Missouri
Epsilon Lambda Chapter strives to create many opportunities for each member to gain wisdom. This past semester our VP Scholarship created a giant tree that could hold many squirrels and acorns for good grades and test scores. In addition, our VP Scholarship had a weekly prize drawing out of the "No Skippy Jar" for those who attended every class of the week. You can always find our girls studying in the front room. We are full of encouragement and strive to gain wisdom in all aspects of our lives.
-Morgan Anderson
Beta Omicron-Illinois State University
Beta Omicron Chapter takes this line of the Purpose very seriously. We have made academic performance our top priority. This is demonstrated through our continual recognition by Panhellenic Association for highest overall grade point average on Illinois State University’s campus. In addition to highest GPA, Beta Omicron Chapter won six of the nine Greek Awards on campus last year including: Scholarship, Membership Development, Community Service/Philanthropy, Risk Management, Membership Recruitment and Sisterhood. In addition, our chapter received the Chapter Excellence Award of Distinguished Commendation. Three individuals of the chapter were recognized as well as Outstanding Scholar, President and Senior Member. Community service is something we value as a chapter. By giving back to the community, we not only help others but learn from these experiences as well. We feel that it is essential to enhance our knowledge in and outside the classroom.
-Karalyn Greiter
Gamma Zeta-University of Memphis
Gamma Zeta Chapter worked diligently in their studies and received the highest grade point average of any Greek chapter at the University of Memphis. During the fall semester of 2009, the women of Alpha Gamma Delta held a squirrel study café to encourage others to further their academics. As well as schoolwork, there was also a continuing education program for ritual for the newly initiated members and any other sisters who wanted to brush up on their Alpha Gam history and ritual.
-Ashley Pembleton
Sigma-University of Illinois
Sigma Chapter takes this line of the Purpose very seriously. Alpha Gams are often found studying together in the library, helping each other toward academic achievement. We are very dedicated to school work and we are constantly striving for success. Our chapter often has study groups before important exams and sisters are always seen helping one another with homework. The majority of our sisters have many more study hours than expected every week, due to our dedication to scholastics.
-Jenny Reed
Epsilon Kappa-Pittsburg State University
This semester began wonderfully for our chapter, as we held the highest chapter grade point average among Greek organizations on campus. We continually strive to improve our scholastic performance and we have many incentive programs. We also held a scholarship banquet to recognize the high academic performance of our women. Another wisdom imparting event was Initiation. We shared our sacred ritual with 18 new women and they learned much about Alpha Gamma Delta. Officer training was a learning experience for many members as well. Some wonderful information was provided to help each newly elected officer perform her duties to the best of her ability.

Calgary Area Alumnae Chapter-Canada
The Calgary Area Alumnae Chapter has had a busy year supporting our undergraduate sisters and participating in various philanthropy and social activities. We had teams in both the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes and the CIBC Run for the Cure to help raise funds and awareness to fight these devastating diseases. We were very proud and appreciative of all the hard work our International Reunion Day Committee put in to the most recent IRD celebration, hard work which earned an honorable mention for the best use of theme. We are looking forward to another great year of sisterhood in 2010!
Potomac Alumnae Chapter-Maryland
The Potomac Alumnae Chapter is in the middle of a busy year. We started off with a Silpada Jewelry and Tupperware party to raise money for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. We were very fortunate to initiate two wonderful alumnae! We enjoy sending care packages to Zeta Kappa Chapter, our Adopt-a-Chapter. In the spring, we’re looking forward to celebrating International Reunion Day with the Chesapeake Alumnae Chapter and Zeta Delta Chapter, hosting a fund-raising yard sale, going on a winery tour and participating in a local Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund Walk to Cure Diabetes. If you live in the Montgomery County, Maryland area, we would love to see you at an event soon!
-Sherry Zangueneh
Greater Raleigh Alumnae Chapter-North Carolina
Greater Raleigh Alumnae Chapter (GRAC) was recognized for the third year in a row as Bronze Level Sponsors for the Triangle area JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. In addition, GRAC is one of the original 6 groups that participated in the 2009 walk, 15 years and counting! In addition, we are selling pecans to raise money for the Triangle JDRF and the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. We also held our second holiday bazaar to support sister owned home-based businesses and to raise money for Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. In November, we hosted a casino party social for sisters and their dates. At our December meeting, we collected several items for Interact of Wake County’s (a domestic violence shelter) holiday bazaar so abused women and their children could have a brighter Christmas. We are continuing to support our two adopted chapters, Theta Mu Chapter and Theta Omicron Chapter. GRAC sisters assisted Theta Mu Chapter with their Formal Recruitment in the fall. We established a new website (http://sites.google.com/site/raleighagd/). A sister living in Italy has established a Facebook page for our chapter. However, we are continuing to use Yahoo! Groups as our primary form of communication for GRAC and our junior circle chapter.
-Charity Metz Schuller
St. Louis Alumnae Chapter-Missouri
The St. Louis alums meet monthly September through May to network, have dinner and a short program. Subgroups meet for bridge, book club, a Mommy's Group, Junior Circle and other activities. We keep in touch through our e-mail listserve and our newsletter. Sunday, October 9, we supported the local Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund Walk-A-Thon both with walkers and volunteers. At the walk we made sure to hand out reminder magnets about our upcoming Trivia Night in April 2010 to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes causes. On November 14, we held Alpha Gam Always and Everyway, inviting all the Alpha Gams we could find in the greater St. Louis area to meet us for coffee or tea at coffee shops throughout the metro area for an hour of "get to know your sisters.” The St. Louis alums actively prepared for the installment and Initiation of our colony at Westminster. We try to get with the collegiates when they are in town and several alums planned a road trip to Westminster for the installment.
-Dale Marie Stephenson Weir
Gamma Zeta Alumnae Chapter-Tennessee
The Gamma Zeta Alumnae Chaptercontinued into the fall with a variety of activities. We are proud of the21 new "squirrels" from our fall recruitment, and look forward to hearing of their future accomplishments. Fall means football, and our group showed our Tiger pride at many games. Other fall events included sisters running in the University of Memphis True Blue 5k, supporting our collegians in the undergraduate fundraiser Mr. University of Memphis, having our monthly book club meeting and our Rosebuds group spent a wonderful afternoon at a hayride and picked pumpkins for Halloween. Thanks to coordination of our Alumnae Philanthropy/Service Chairwoman, Nicole Shafer, and our President, Lacey McRae, the sisters served a delicious Thanksgiving meal at the Memphis Union Mission, our local philanthropy, in November. It truly "contributed to this world's work" and we look forward to future service projects at this location. Our year ended with two holiday events: our chapter's Christmas Open House (Santa made a special visit) and our Junior Circle Christmas Party. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta!
