Sisters Selected for Australian Adventure

Shannon O'Nale and Kimberly Winchester, both from Epsilon Zeta Chapter-Arkansas State University, were recently rewarded for their outstanding leadership ability with a trip to Australia. The trip was sponsored through the Global Student Leader (GSL) program, which rewards the most outstanding student leaders at ASTATE with a once in a lifetime opportunity. This program advances the proposition in the ASTATE mission statement that we prepare students in challenging and diverse ways to become more productive global citizens. The GSL program pays for everything for the students, including their plane tickets, meals, and lodging. Natalie Eskew is the Coordinator for Student Services Orientation and Yearbook of Arkansas State, is an alumni of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter, and was the advisor on the trip to Australia. Kimberly Winchester speaks of her GSL experience, "I felt so blessed to be selected for the GSL trip to Australia. When I found out I would be going with my pledge sister Shannon and have an alumni, Natalie, as our advisor, I was even more excited." The three sisters traveled to many different cities in Australia, including Sydney, Canberra (the capital city of Australia), and Katoomba. In the Blue Mountains, the three sisters got to take a picture in front of the famous rock formation known as the "three sisters" in Katoomba, Australia. They got to see numerous famous sites, such as the Sydney Opera House, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach and the Darling Harbour Aquarium and Wildlife Center.

100th Anniversary Chapter

Delta Chapter-University of Minnesota      Installation Date: February 14, 19008
Delta Chapter at the University of Minnesota had two centennial celebrations—one during International Reunion Day (IRD) in April and another one on February 11, 2008. The centennial celebration at IRD united sisters from the Minnesota area as they visited the chapter house for tours. In February, people from all over the area—faculty, police, legislators, members from other Greek organizations and Alpha Gam alumnae—came to the Alpha Gamma Delta chapter house. Enjoying refreshments and sifting through old photographs, it was truly a community-focused affair.

Epsilon Chapter-University of Kentucky      Installation Date: May 14, 1908
Utilizing the theme “100 Years of Beauty; Nothing can compare,” alumnae of Epsilon Chapter at the University of Kentucky traveled from across the country to celebrate their chapter’s 100th birthday on October 3 through 5, 2008. From a reception that united Alpha Gams of all ages and backgrounds to a historic and interactive house tour, all Alpha Gams who attended truly cherished this centennial celebration. With roses in hand, pearls around their necks and badges over their hearts, they found that it doesn’t take a century to create a sisterhood, but instead, it takes a special sisterhood to last a century.

Zeta Chapter-Ohio University      Installation Date: June 2, 1908
Proud members of Zeta Chapter–Ohio University celebrated their centennial anniversary on April 19-21, 2008. Over 300 women traveled to the Ohio University campus from 23 states, with one family having three generations of Alpha Gams represented. Highlights of the event included a speech from Paula Gallup Little, past International Vice President-Alumnae, a bequest left from Barbara Caldwell of Zeta Chapter for $250,000 to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation for an endowment for a scholarship and recognition of Inez Winland, Zeta Chapter’s Chapter Housing Supervisor, for her 26 years of loyalty and commitment to the young women in the chapter house.

Iota Chapter-University of Washington       Installation Date: March 12, 1909

Held at the beautiful Newcastle Golf course, guests were met by collegians, who set the stage by greeting the guests wearing vintage clothing from the last 100 years.  Iotas came from everywhere to celebrate this momentous event. There were a couple of tables of Iota Chapter sisters who had come as a group from California, and every table had women who had traveled from other states or at least the other side of the mountains to be with their sisters. Honored guests were Benita Wilson Dick, trustee from the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, and Jackie Brannon Stutts, International President, who came across country to present Iota Chapter with two wonderful gifts. Benita gave the collegians a one-time $1,000 scholarship, and Jackie gave the chapter a copy of their charter. Possibly the most exciting part of the festivities, however, came with the viewing of the centennial video, which was produced by the alumnae chapter. The past 100 years in photos and narration brought laughter, some tears and much applause from the delighted audience as they experienced the story of the chapter over all this time and realized that, as the video said, not much has changed besides hairdos and hemlines. Each attendee found a copy of the video at her place on the table. After the luncheon, many alumnae went back to the chapter house where collegians served coffee with the special chocolate-dipped ΑΓΔ cookies that they have at the Final Preference party during Recruitment.

Collegiate Chapter Reports - Spring 2010 Quarterly

Fulfilling the line "To possess high ideals and to attain somewhat unto them."

Beta Alpha-Nebraska Wesleyan University

Last semester, the women of Beta Alpha Chapter learned a great deal about setting personal and chapter goals. On the personal level, women were encouraged to set ideals that would lead to a more fulfilling life, both academically and socially. As a chapter, we decided to set high recruitment goals and standards to continue to improve our status with the Fraternity and enrich our quality of sisterhood.  Although not all goals were obtained, every women learned more about herself and her sisters. More importantly, through our united effort, the ideal of personal and chapter improvement was ultimately achieved.
- Lauren Fletcher

Zeta Beta-Lehigh University

Zeta Beta Chapter prides themselves on holding high ideals and living their lives in accordance with these ideals. We hold ourselves to high academic, philanthropic, and social standards. Our scholarship room, Yay for A’s wall and sister-tutoring program help us to get the grades we want and continue to have one of the highest grade point averages out of all of the sororities at Lehigh. We strive to hold ourselves to our philanthropic goals by getting involved with community service both on campus and in the Bethlehem community. Additionally, we hold many programs, such as Strykes for Tykes, and fund raisers to raise money for our juvenile diabetes philanthropy. Lastly, we reach our social goals by constantly staying aware of what is going on around campus and working hard to integrate the non-Greek community with the Greek community by participating in leadership programs and co-hosting events.
- Michelle Repecki

Epsilon Lambda-University of Central Missouri

“To possess high ideals and to attain somewhat unto them” is another phrase from our purpose on which we pride ourselves highly. We try to encourage everyone in our chapter to be confident of themselves and take pride in our Fraternity. We started giving out a “Stylish Squirrel Award” to one sister per week who dressed up nicely every day. We also encourage our girls to wear letters as often as possible to show everyone on campus that we have pride in our organization. We love our Fraternity, and we want everyone to see that.

Zeta Chi-University of Western Ontario

The members of Zeta Chi Chapter have very high ideals that we live up to in our everyday lives. Some of our ideals and values include high scholarship and strong relationships with our fellow sisters. Our scholarship team has worked very hard this year in order to improve our study habits and overall grades. We are happy to announce that through friendly competition within the chapter, our VP Scholarship has created teams by which we compete for points! This new program has drastically increased our members’ grades, and has brought our overall chapter grade point average above International Headquarters standards. We also value our strong sisterhood. Through the activities during our Initiation week and our sisterhood lunches on campus every week, we have created very strong bonds with all of our members. We may not be the largest chapter, but we definitely have high ideals that we do our best to attain every day.
- Brittany Lockhart

Alpha Iota-Baldwin-Wallace

The sisters of Alpha Iota Chapter strive to set and achieve high goals in order to further improve and perfect our chapter. This past semester, we worked hard to achieve our scholarship goals and made the dean’s list as a chapter. We hope to continue this academic success for the semesters to come. Starting this year, we are encouraging all of our members to commit at least 25 hours a semester to serving the community. Alpha Iota Chapter continues to work hard in order to raise more money to donate to our philanthropy. Our sisters develop their leadership skills by participating in campus organizations and make an effort to be role models within the community. Alpha Iota Chapter sets high goals and standards for our members and although we have not yet reached some of them, we are working hard to obtain those goals.
- Katie Battaglia

Our high ideals will lead us to grow as leaders as a chapter and grow together as sisters throughout the year!
- Kolby Schaeffer

Kappa Gamma-Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

The ladies of Kappa Gamma Chapter indeed possess high ideals. We cherish one another too dearly to allow each other to make a mockery of ourselves. We make sure to keep our class and remind ourselves that our personal lives should not be publicized such as on Facebook or Myspace. All of us have great and different qualities that make us who we are as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, and our love and encouragement for our fellow sisters is what keeps us all going.
- Araceli DeLeon

Delta Omicron-University of Nevada, Las Vegas

As the semester progresses, we continue to work to complete our goals. Last semester, we had the ambition of raising our chapter’s grade point average, which we worked hard to meet by this time. We also greatly value our classy image on campus and continue to portray it inside and out by participating in The Big Event (Truman’s largest service project) in letters. Epsilon Omega Chapter also continues to strive in attaining high ideals by further developing our leadership skills, which helps shape us into even stronger, independent women.

Our chapter currently has the highest grade point average out of all the sororities on campus. Each member works hard every day at achieve high grades and improve their personal educational success.  In addition to our academic success many of our sisters are involved in clubs on campus including Habitat for Humanity, Circle K, Engineers without Boarders and the Women’s Mentor Program. - Katherine Francoeur

Theta Pi- Lambuth University

The ladies of Theta Pi Chapter possess high ideals and help to make sure their sisters in the chapter have the support they need to attain somewhat unto them. We hosted a campus-wide chapel service that encouraged students to take a 21 day challenge to not say anything negative, and instead, focus on saying only positive things. We provided reminder bracelets to all those taking the challenge to help them succeed. Theta Pi Chapter is also working to promote high academic ideals by encouraging members’ attendance in class, chapel and receiving of top grades with their scholarship jar program, a program that gives each girl achieving these objectives a chance to win each week. We are helping each other to not only possess high ideals, but to attain them every day.
- Victoria Jowers

Theta Zeta- Randolph-Macon College

Our chapter uses the Purpose to motivate and guide us in continuing to better ourselves individually and as a whole. We currently have the highest grade point average on campus, a standard we have kept since 2008. We recently had a chapter program which reinforced our commitment to representing our chapter and ourselves individually as befits an Alpha Gam, whether it is through our actions on campus or our online presence on networking sites. Our chapter is also working hard to receive the Chapter of Excellence Award from our campus again. We are also excited for Greek Week this year, and we are hoping to win the Greek Sing competition for the fourth year in a row. Our chapter continues to set and strive to achieve the high standards of an Alpha Gamma Delta.
- Rachel Walker

Currently we hold the second highest sorority grade point average on campus and we are working to move into first place. Our sisters are career minded, hard working and responsible. We wear our letters around campus, proud to be Alpha Gams!
- Rebecca Pardue

Phi Chapter-Oregon State University

This past spring, Phi Chapter made the decision to attempt to win Greek Week. In previous years, we have participated and had a good time, but this year we were determined to be the best. It took teamwork and dedication from our members to excel in each event, such as decorating our chapter house to the Greek Week theme and competing in different games in the Greek Olympics. At the end of the week, we received second place. Although it was not first place, our chapter felt just as successful because we had worked together to accomplish this great goal.
- Olivia Paradis

Alpha Lambda-The Ohio State University

Alpha Lambda Chapter set high ideals for the Formal Recruitment process. Through various training sessions, the women of the chapter mastered superior recruiting techniques and procured fundamental recruitment knowledge. Each round, we put forth sincere efforts to attain women who would exemplify the qualities emphasized in the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose. On Bid Day, we met our lofty standards, and exceeded capacity in welcoming 27 new members to our chapter. Further, Alpha Lambda Chapter has continued to strive for academic success. Our overall grade point average has increased throughout the year and awards have been given to those demonstrating exceptional educational merit.  Our chapter will continue to attain unto the high ideals it possesses.
- Lauren Kole

We set high expectations for ourselves as a group, because we know that when provided with the support and encouragement of our sisters we can achieve our highest goals.
- Angela Walsh

Epsilon Epsilon-William Jewell College

One of the most important ideals that our chapter upholds is scholarship. Of the Greek organizations on campus, we have the second highest grade point average.  Anyone in our chapter that has a GPA below 3.0 is required to complete at least four study hours a week. The difference between our GPA and that of the organization with the highest is 0.02 and our goal for this semester is to raise our GPA enough to take first place.
- Marcie White

Kappa Delta-Westminster College

Starting as soon as our new ladies were initiated, we began Continuous Open Recruitment in the fall, and are continuing to do so. We have been able to gain six girls through the process and are continuing to add lovely ladies to our house numbers! We have done various events like game nights, movie nights, bowling and lunch and dinner dates! The women of Kappa Delta Chapter are excited to continue adding new members and are looking forward to recruitment in the fall to add even more! We have many ideals and we are holding ourselves to our standards each and every day.
